Dear Chuck’s Chat Latino readership,

At this time, I would like to extend a huge apology to you all regarding my usage of the term “Latinx.”

I had no idea that a great majority of Latinos are offended by that word. It wasn’t until I saw a recent clip of one of my favorite politicians, Rep. Ruben Gallego explaining on HBO’s “Real Time With Bill Maher” his disdain for that word, that there was a problem with it.

Mistakenly, I thought “Latinx” was created by Millennial/Gen Z  LGBTQ Latinos regarding sexual inequality issues they saw in the language/culture. If I would have known about the origin of the word that was explained by a discussion between Rep. Gallego and Activist comic Bill Maher, I would never have used it. What Rep Gallego said made perfect sense.

Again, my sincerest apology to you all. It was a lesson learned about assuming. I was wrong. Thanks again to Rep. Gallego for the clarification.
