SOME OF THE FAMOUS PEOPLE WE LOST IN 2021

For the past several years, it has been customary for my 1st article of the New Year to pay homage to some of the celebrities we lost in the previous year, they are:

JANUARY:

4th: Gregory Sierra – Character actor best known for the role of Julio Fuentes on the TV show, “Sandford and Son.”

4th: Tanya Roberts – Actress/model best known as a Bond girl in 1985’s ” A View to a Kill.”

7th: Marion Ramsey – The “Police Academy ” actress best known as playing the shy, meek squeaky voice police officer

13th: Siegfried Fischbacker – Half of the famous Las Vegas magical act, “Siegfried & Roy.”

13th: Sylvain Sylvain – A member of the iconic punk rock band, ” New York Dolls.”  

17th: Phil Spector – Legendary Music Producer 

22nd: Hank Aaron – Famous pro Baseball player

23rd: Larry King – Famous TV broadcaster

27th: Cloris Leachman – Famous actress best known for her role in the TV show, “The Mary Tyler Moore Show.”

28th: Cicely Tyson – Famed Legendary Oscar Nominated actress best known for the movie “Sounder.” “The Autobiography of Miss Jane Pittman,” and portraying Ophelia Hartness in the TV show, “How To Get Away With Murder.”

 

FEBRUARY:

1st: Dustin Diamond – The actor best known for portraying the loveable geek “Screech” in the TV series “Saved by the Bell.” 

5th: Christopher Plummer – Oscar-winning actor best known for his role in the movie classic “The Sound of Music.”

10th: Larry Flynt – Hustler magazine founder who became an activist for 1st Amendment rights.

 

MARCH:

23rd: George Segal – Oscar-nominated actor who gained a new generation of fans portraying the lovable fun-loving playboy grandfather in the hit TV series, “The Goldbergs.”

26th: Jessica Walter – Actress best known for portraying a psychotic, lovestruck maniac in the 1970’s thriller, “Play Misty for Me.”

 

APRIL:

9th: DMX – Legendary rapper turned actor

11th: Joseph Siravo – an actor best known for starring in the HBO series “The Sopranos,” and the movie “Jersey Boys.”

20th: Les McKowan – Lead vocalist of the British rock group, “The Bay City Rollers.”

 

MAY:

1st: Olympia Dukakis – Famed actress and cousin of Presidential candidate Governor Mike Dukakis. Ms. Dukakis was popular in the LGBTQ populace for portraying Anna Madrigal in “Tales of The City”, and Clairee Belcher in “Steel Magnolias.”

7th: Tawney Kitain – She was best known in her role as the Bride-to-be in the Movie “Bachelor Party with Tom Hanks, and a 1980s music video performer for the rock group “Whitesnake.”

18th: Charles Grodin – Hollywood character actor

28th Kevin Clark – former child actor best known for his character Freddy Jones in the movie “School of Rock.”

29th: BJ Thomas – 1960s era Grammy award-winning singer best known for his hits “Raindrops Keep Falling On My Head” and “Hooked On A Feeling.”

29th: Gavin McLeod – The actor best known for portraying Captain Stubing on the TV series, “The Love Boat.”

 

JUNE:

4th: Clarence Williams III – The actor best known for portraying Detective Linc in the 1960s era TV show, “The Mod Squad.”

 

JULY:

5th: William Smith – Character actor famous for playing tough guys in the 1960’s era TV shows “Hawaii Five – 0” and “Laredo.”

7th: Chick Vennera – The actor best known for playing the disco dancer “Leatherman” in the hit movies, “Thank God It’s Friday” and his recurring role as Enrique/Pepe in “The Golden Girls.”

11th: Biz Markie – The rapper best known for his hit, “Just A Friend.”

 

AUGUST:

25th: Charlie Watts – Famous drummer for the legendary rock group, “The Rolling Stones.”

29th: Ed Asner – Famous Kansas City, Kansas-born actor with a long TV/movie career best known as portraying the character “Lou Grant.”

 

SEPTEMBER:

14th: Norm MacDonald – famed comic and SNL alumnus

21st: Willie Garrison – Actor famous for his role as Stanford Blatch in the “Sex and The City TV series.

 

 OCTOBER:

22nd: Peter Scolari – actor and close friend of actor Tom Hanks. Scolari co-starred with Hanks in their breakout roles in the TV series, “Bosom Buddies.”

 

NOVEMBER:

26th: Virgil Abloh – Fashion Designer who founded Louis Vitton’s Off-White label. 

 

DECEMBER:

31st: Betty White – Beloved actress referred to as “The First Lady of Television.” She had numerous fans of different generations and was very outspoken but demure as well. She was beloved in the LGBTQ community. Most popular in the 1980s TV series, “The Golden Girls.”

 

Again, these are just some of the famous people who we lost in 2021. They will always be remembered.
