“My biggest success is getting over the things that have tried to destroy and take me out of this world. Those are my biggest successes. It has nothing to do with work.”

Tyler Perry

Actor, filmmaker, comedian

Recently filmmaker and actor Tyler Perry was on “The View” to promote his latest film, “Nobody’s Fool” which was released at the beginning of November nationwide in movie theaters. The comedy stars Tiffany Haddish, Whoopi Goldberg, Tika Sumpter, and Omari Hardwick

Whoopi Goldberg announced that it has been 25 years that Tyler Perry has been in the industry with over 1000 episodes of television and 20 movies under his belt. Whoopi expressed that Tyler writes, directs, produces, and edits them at The Tyler Perry Movie Studio, located in Atlanta, Georgia.

Re: What those 25 years meant – Tyler said, “It has been incredible. It has been amazing. I didn’t know where I was headed, but I knew I had focus and a goal. I wanted to get to own a studio so I could hold the door open for a lot more people to come through and have the opportunity to work with people like you (pointing to Whoopi Goldberg). I mean an Emmy, Tony, Oscar, and Grammy. It was a dream come true for me. I have admired loved and watched the work you did and now here you are with Tiffany Haddish in this movie. It is so full circle for me. It has been awesome.”

Re:  The story behind the job shaming of actor Geoffrey Owens: – Mr. Perry remarked, “When I saw him being job shamed, I was thinking no-no. You can’t shame someone for having a job, doing the right thing. He was not out selling drugs. He’s an honorable man out taking care of his family. He has such pride for what he was doing. I offered him a job and he asked, ‘Why are you doing this for me?’ I said listen. I am offering you this job because of your talent. I have seen your work. I am not handing you anything. Nicki Minaj gave him $25,000.  He donated it to charity because he wanted to earn his way. He’s a really good guy.”

Re: All actors being rich – Tyler observed, “I thought that way for a long time. I thought actors were rich very early on. Every time I would see an actor I would think, ‘He’s so rich.’ They would be on the bus with me and I’d go, ‘Oh.'”

Re: His latest movie, “Nobody’s Fool.” – Mr. Perry divulged,”I love watching ‘Catfish’ on MTV. So I wrote this whole story around ‘Catfish.’ It’s my first ‘R’ rated comedy. I couldn’t have Whoopi Goldberg, Tiffany Haddish, and a very secret cameo in the movie, and make it a PG-13 rating. It is rated ‘R,’ so get ready for a rollercoaster ride.”

Re: Giving Tiffany Haddish a car – Mr. Perry disclosed, “Let me tell you why. Tiffany has just started to make money and was afraid to spend anything. I told her it was okay to spend 5 – 10% on this car but she wouldn’t buy it. So I sent it to her and said, ‘Okay, enjoy the car. Just know, as hard as you are working, take that 5 – 10% and spend it on yourself.'”

Re: What’s next? – Tyler expressed, “Oh, we have been talking about a few things (looking at Whoopi). I think there should be a ‘Sister Act 3,’ starring Tiffany Haddish and Whoopi Goldberg.”

Mr. Tyler Perry has done an amazing job with actors, some like Geoffrey Owens, of “The Cosby Show” fame, and John Schneider, of “The Dukes of Hazzard” fame, that Hollywood had pretty much written off. He has opened the door for unknown actors who want to work. Tyler Perry truly epitomizes the American Dream and has worked extremely hard to be a force to be respected.
