Will The USA Have 20/20 in 2020?
“Congratulations, you played yourself.”
That’s my New Year’s message to all you Trump-loving, GOP, evil ass racists and bigots out there. You played yourself.
Down through the decades, from the late 1960s as a teenager, until I was a middle-aged man in the mid-1990s, I thought it was my responsibility, it was my duty, to be a goodwill ambassador when it came to race relations. I mistakenly thought I was honoring my ancestors in making the world a better place for the generations of people of color yet to be born as they did for me. After all, the Holy Trinity of Heroes I admired was Malcolm X, Martin Luther King Jr., and Cesar Chavez. Even to this day, I boycott purchasing table grapes even though the boycott ended in 1970 when I was 15 years old. I was old enough back then to recognize evil, greed, and racism when I observed it. I didn’t understand why these White folks were acting like that, but back then, I didn’t question the ways of adults. It was grown folks’ business and conversations.
After graduating from high school, a couple of months later in July 1973, I was hired to work at Southwestern Bell Telephone Company at the age of 17. I experienced a level of racism in the real world. As a means of escape, I turned to dance in discos. I had this Pollyanna mindset that my generation was going to change hateful evil people through our music or dancing. Interracial couples and same-sex couples were dancing at the various discos I attended. We didn’t have the hang-ups of the outside world when we were in our little world. Our music was fun, but we also had socially conscious music we danced to as well.
The years had passed. By the time I was in my 50s, it was the late 2000s. I was a horse of a different color. I had no desire to get married, I had no desire to have children. I did not want the responsibility. I am so very happy that I stuck with that decision with no regrets. Through the decades, I experienced evil and ugliness in levels I could not imagine. What I did learn was that great accomplishments always are followed by great setbacks, when it comes to social activism. I didn’t think anything else could shock me with the election and re-election of the USA’s first Black President Barack Obama, and Michelle Obama as the 1st Black First Lady.
I was wrong. I expected racist Whites to have a stroke when President Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama were re-elected. I just had this uneasy feeling in my gut that somehow Hillary Clinton would somehow lose to Satan Incarnate.
What I didn’t expect was the level of evilness toward people of color, LGBTQ+ folks, Progressive minded women, and other marginalized groups. The level of rage and fear of Whites becoming a minority, as the face of the United States turns browner and browner. What do they have to fear? A level playing field? That people of color will treat them with the same level of evil and disdain they have shown toward us for centuries?
At the beginning of this article, I quoted DJ Khalid. Trumplicans, you played yourself. Plenty of you really doesn’t care for that mango-colored demon. You know he is an ass. Oh, but your evil asses love his racism, you support his backward policies that take money from the poor, and give it to the rich. At least those Blacks, Latinx, and other groups you despise are getting brutalized. You will be dammed if the richest country in the world is not going to be White.
I laugh at your evil asses. Because of your greedy evil ass, millions upon millions of Americans in all colors and ages are utilizing 21st-century technology, coupled with tried and true, old school ways of socially conscious music, movies, voting, and protests to fight back and move this country forward.
Now the planet’s very existence in jeopardy because of your inaction on, and denial of, climate change. We all see clearly what your racism, bigotry, and misogyny is accomplishing and we ain’t having it.
You can stop playing the victim that you are being discriminated against because of your thoughts. Millions of us couldn’t care less about what you think. Continue with your evil thoughts, but just realize when you put your thoughts into action to brutalize us, treat us as second class citizens, to maintain your beliefs of superiority, then Houston, we have a problem.
Our civil rights are not yours to give or take away.
